Jumping in the deep end
The National Novel Writing Month starts at midnight tomorrow. The challenge is to write a 50k-word novel in the month of November.
I just signed up two days ago. But clicking a button doth not a novelist make. I clicked the sign up button and then I thought "well, shit."
Oh crap, I'm going to write a novel!
I have absolutely no idea what to write about. I've never written any sort of fiction before.
The plan is to start writing as soon as November 1st begins, and then keep writing until I have 50,000 words. Figure it out as I go along.
I have read some "how to write a novel" type articles, but nothing that really helps. I guess what will really help is actually writing the damn thing.
Now, I'm much more excited about the writing process than its outcome. Like, what does it take to write a novel in 30 days? There's absolutely no way that you couldn't learn a whole lot about yourself.
The end result is going to suck, I can almost guarantee it. But that isn't the important bit. It never is.
