Don't censor yourself
I publish almost everything I write these days, in some media or another.
I recently published two longer articles on Medium. Some goes into our new marketing newsletter. Some makes it into my books. Other stuff goes here.
I don't particularly like the post I made yesterday. Not that I don't agree with myself, but that I think it's not really there yet. I could have worked on it for another week and got it really polished. It's certainly lacking in many regards. I could have expressed those ideas much more cleanly if I really worked on it.
But I didn't. I just wrote, hit publish. Done.
Because I don't have time for perfection.
And the fact that I don't really like it doesn't matter. Someone else might. In fact, as the comments frequently show, people do seem to like it.
Who am I to judge what is good or bad?
It isn't up to me. And if you have an audience you communicate with, it isn't up to you either.
The governments don't seem to subscribe to this idea. They always know better. They think they know how to spend your money better than you do.
And you know, being a writer and therefore a little better than other people, I of course know what people want to read about better than they do. Ahem.
But the market wants what the market wants.
I'm realizing as I'm writing this that there are probably better ways to express THIS idea. But oh well. I think you're smart enough to get it. Don't you?
Make shit people want. That's about the gist of the idea.
When you make products, sometimes you can do research beforehand to find out what people will want to buy. But often you can't. And, when it comes to the publishing of ideas, ie blogs, books, newsletters, etc. then you can't really know until after the fact.
Publish something. See what happens. Repeat.
Don't censor yourself. Just keep moving forward. Don't look back.
