This post isn't interesting and has nothing to do with Korea
I left off here with my stupid ASUSG51J overheating in the middle of winter.
The quickest way to solve this issue would have been to undervolt the CPU. You can easily lower the voltage to your computer using freeware called Throttlestop, or if you want more options, Crystal CPUID. There is no risk of damage, and you lower power consumption and temperature with 0 performance loss.
Unfortunately, Intel decided to lock the voltages for their Core I series to spit in the face of the modding community like so many other companies nowadays.
My next plan was to take it to the computer wholesale market in Myungnyun, between Dongnae and PNU and have someone dust it out, reapply thermal paste to the heatsinks to improve the conductivity, and finally
A. Perform this mod and transform the 'second asshole' of my chassis by turning it into a real, semi-permeable asshole that will allow cool air to be sucked in by the fan.
Or B. Just drill some fucking holes in it.
It takes me an hour to get to this awful stop, so I was already primed for some bullshit. And that's exactly what I got...on my first trip there. Some of the guys there are worthless fuckheads.
I came prepared the second time, with my Korean friend and went to the third floor this time, since the second is closed on Saturdays. We spoke to a friendly kiosk of gentlemen who were kind enough to provide me with a list of reasons of why they were unable to help me...but they'd take me to the Supergeek on Monday.
By the time Monday rolled around, I realized I could just ask the school technician to do it for free. I was just gonna ask him to drill some holes, but I showed him the mod and he said it could be done. He went to town on this thing, even harvesting some grating from an old speaker.
My G51J's idle and peak temperatures have dropped about 8C, and that's without a proper thermal paste job. Take that, ASUS.
Myungnyun is where to go to get your computer fixed, but take a Korean with you. The price I was quoted for the drill job or the mod was 60k, which is more than fair. From the subway station, take the obvious exit, turn right, cross the overpass on your left and proceed to the second and third floor.
