Harrington on cash games 1 and 2, caro's book of poker tells, professional no limit hold'em, small stakes no limit hold'em, reading hands at no limit hold'em, no limit hold'em theory and practice, and the theory of poker. i'd read them in this order, and make sure you have each 99% down before you read the next one. you shouldn't need any more than these either, at least for a few years. probably take 5-6 readings and a lot of playing between before you know each book well enough to read the next one. should beat 1-2 NL after reading harrington's books, 2-5 after reading hands and 5-10 after you have all of them implemented in your game. so about $10-20/hr, $30-50/hr, $60-100/hr respectively

Ed Miller, the guy who wrote winning small stakes hold'em that you recommended above, also has a new book out called "how to read hands at no-limit hold'em" which is about NL but I think you'd still find it highly valuable. He has a 4 DVD series about reading hands in limit hold'em as well.

Thanks for the Turbo Hold'em rec, it's really improved my game and plugged some leaks. I've been using play money online but even at the highest limits the game is very different from true poker.

And depending how far you're wanting to go with poker I think you should learn NL. It's much more fun and interesting, requires more skill and strategy and best of all you can make a lot more money. Things like reading hands and tells become more important, it trains you for the early parts of tournaments, etc.

I second playing no limit. You have to make more decisions, which means bad players make more mistakes and you get more information from their betting. People say there is theoretically more swing, but I found my greater edge actually decreased the variance. What other books have you read and liked? Caro's? Harrington's?

One thing I learned from chess is that it's better to fully absorb one book than to mostly absorb 5 books. Also, only read 1 or 2 beginner books, 2-3 intermediate, and the rest advanced/expert. No need to read much before you get right in to the most advanced material, as the basic stuff is repetitive.

a little bit of extra bulk in your pack won't hurt you. it's good exercise!

this post was lame. an excuse not to face reality as it is because of some bullshit principles no one cares about. at the end of the day you either win or lose. if people are stupid enough to voluntarily give you money for shady weight loss pills (or whatever it is) then why wouldn't you take their money? it's not the job of a business to tell people what they should want, it's to give them what they do want as evidenced by what they're willing to spend their money on.

funny a month ago i decided to remove myself from all email lists... and i'm still unsubscribing as they come in. couldn't believe how many i was getting (over a hundred). 5 year account and i've voluntarily signed up for less than 10 lists. this will make things easier

a recent lifehack i love is carrying flashcards with me to learn foreign words during dead time (standing in line, riding the bus, even waiting for someone to answer after i dial their #). i never leave home without flashcards, wallet, phone and keys. learn enough vocab to be fluent in a language every year (grammar etc not included..)

I say stop wearing it. Seems like a crutch that you no longer need. If you do decide to wear another one, I hope you at least go 30 days without it to see what it's like hatless.

I don't think he really believes in psychics. I think he just threw that in there casually for effect and because it's interesting.
