The entire concept of the priority queue is to speed up the drafting process. We realize that not everyone can be online all the time (especially true if your league has players from all over the world). In addition to that, it is a huge time saver when players know who they are going to draft in before it gets to their turn. This includes plan B's and plan C's in case your next ideal pick gets picked before it gets to you - when that happens, you can whinge about it all you like, but do it after making your pick. Thanks!
The priority queue is our solution to this. So here is everything you need to know about what it is and how it works:
It's that simple really.
This system is, of course, not possible using the spreadsheet method. Whenever it gets to be someone's turn to make a pick, the rest of the players will have to communicate with that player after which he will go to the spreadsheet, look at who has been picked since his last turn, then decide who he would like, and then make the pick. This whole process can be made somewhat more efficient by asking players to have plan B's and C's in their head (never happens!) or by telling your next priority pick to a player whose next turn is after your next turn so that he can make the pick - and spreadsheet adjustment - on your behalf (not sure I've just made sense there but it is essentially a patch-work way of having a priority queue for players who know they will be unavailable...). This paragraph is starting to get a bit messy, much like how the drafting system sometimes gets with manual, spreadsheet drafting.
Just as the article says:
A rough, unpolished version of the site is on the brink of going live. There is (was?? Fingers crossed!), one bug that kept cropping up: There was an error coming up when trying to edit the priority queue once the draft had started. As you can imagine, this is a bit of a deal-breaker.
Anyway, we think we have fixed it now. We'll do another round of testing tomorrow (or today rather, it's past midnight here Down-under) and if the Footballing Gods are in a happy mood, have a beta site up and running tomorrow. Hoping to disappoint plenty of wives and girlfriends this weekend...
So, after a countless number of delays (our apologies for that), we are ready to go!
We are already 8 gameweeks into the season, which is not ideal, but the game should still be immensely fun - and for myself personally, it is a ready made excuse for my appalling performance in the official game: "I'm focusing on draft style fantasy football this year..."
Stay tuned for a series of explanatory posts regarding how some of the features in the site work, although for the most part they are intuitive and easy to use.
My top tip for those reading this (for what my fantasy knowledge is worth): Prioritize Yaya Toure and Aaron Ramsey very highly. As part of midfield double pivots, both have been classified as DM's, they get more points than AMs and FWDs for goals, get more points for clean sheets and score points for tackles they put in as well.
The transfer window. Where football (well, real football anyway - pshh Confederation's cup) is at a standstill. Clubs are playing musical chairs with players and managers alike. Fans are either being insufferable gloaters (we all know them), hoping the world swallows them up (poor QPR fans) or convinced that next year is their year (ahh, good ol' Liverpool). If humans could hibernate, football fans would be the first to do so the moment the season was over. As it is, we can't and transfer rumours are our only link left to get our daily (hourly? minutely?...) footy fix. We latch on to them like a hungry Uruguayan, fantasize about which hot-shot player will come light up our club, grow cold at the thought of our best players joining our rivals and provide the media ample reason to twist any stray comment by anyone in the know into a headline to provide us more food for thought.
Well, we're going to join in here at UniqueFC, but with an angle. And why not? As fantasy players, the off-season is even worse. We can't make knee-jerk transfers, we can't scrutinize video footage of the latest jammy United goal to see whether Van Persie's gelled up hair, did in fact get a touch and therefor the assist, we can't analyse our opponents' teams looking for a differential to make up a points deficit. It's hell!!
Sooo.. We're going to start a series of transfer window articles entitled the Transfer Rumour Mill. In each article, we will focus on a couple of the strongest rumours doing the rounds and how it will effect our fantasy thinking (fantasizing??). Which player's will come to the fore, which player's need to be forgotten about, how will formations change etc. As UniqueFC is focused on the premiership, these articles will, naturally, follow suit.
So, feel free to comment about any rumours you might have heard of. Send us a tweet or comment on our Facebook page.
We're starved of football and discussing footy is always a welcome pass-time.
This thread is here purely for users to post about:
In both cases, please provide as many details as you can (screenshots even better). You can either post in the comments section below, or personal message myself or Nirav (to send personal messages, simply hover on my name and click 'message').
Any contributions are greatly appreciated.
We've created this post for any frequently asked questions that might come up. Using a blog post for this rather than the traditional static page seemed a no-brainer: You can easily ask any questions you have in the comments below and we can edit and update the post as we learn about which questions truly are frequently asked.
1) I have an account on the blog, why is it asking me to register again?
The blog engine is different from the rest of the site and will require separate registrations. Both of them are extremely simple (we only need an email address, password and a manager name - 3 fields) and take about 30 seconds to do.
So! Exciting news: We've reached a stage where we are willing to start our first league on uniquefc.com!
A handful of us will begin playing (the crew that were playing on spreadsheets last season), and if all goes well, I will post it here and invite others to sign-up as well (not that the system won't let anyone sign up at the moment, but we haven't reached the full, 'official' beta launch yet). The reason for that is quite simple: I don't want to raise expectations too high and cause disappointment.
There are still a few issues to be taken care of, and a million improvements to slowly incorporate into the site, but as long as we continue moving in the right direction, we will eventually get there.
For those of you brave enough to face possible disappointment if the site goes t*ts up, please do the following:
The very first 'official' league on uniquefc.com!
I'll say straight off the bat that the site isn't yet perfect, but hopefully we can make it so as the season progresses.
I've created this post/thread to discuss everything related with our league - So any banter, player trade talk, draft pick talk, shotguns etc etc goes here.
A couple more important links:
Here is a quick rundown of the rules of uniquefc.com - For the most part it is quite similar to the official game at fantasy.premierleague.com so fantasy football veterans will pick it up straight away:
League and team structure:
A minimum of 3 defenders must play each week
Welcome to UniqueFC!! I'll keep this short and to the point..
We need to get everyone signed up to the main site (you need to sign up for the game separate to the blog - though feel free to use the same login details) and into the created league.
Ideally, if we can get everybody to sign up today, with use of the priority queue, we should be able to complete the draft prior to next game week’s kickoff. So once you have signed up to the site , please join the league with the code:
The sooner you sign up the better! - The order of draft selection is based on the order of players signing up. By default, the league-creator picks first ;) but Nirav and I will skip our first turn in the interest of fairness.
