I'm really interested to hear more on this topic from someone who I know is extremely mindful in all aspects of life. I was introduced to the concept of unschooling through the TV show Wife Swap", which of course highlighted an extreme example and left me with a bad taste in my mouth, but also intrigued as to how the concept might work in different ways.
My three year old daughter goes to a Sakura Sakuranbo style hoikuen (daycare) here in Japan. There seem to be some similarities (for example, they are strongly opposed to lessons of any kind for kids until they start elementary school - including swimming lessons, piano, etc.). But there are also many differences. As a mum of wondering how to help my daughter transition from a Sakura Sakuranbo environment to elementary school and beyond when the time comes, this topic is fascinating for me.
