Which Agency is best for me?

On Zalman Silber

Not because a model agency worked well for someone means it will necessarily work for me. If I don’t take care and choose my modeling agency well then I will fail before I even properly begin. The first step is to compile a list of top agencies that I am interested in and who are more likely to have an interest in my work. They have to be established and have already made a name for themselves in the modeling industry. This might sound unfair because I too am just a beginner and not giving another beginner a chance. But these are just precautions to protect me; I have heard that many model agencies these days are just keen on ripping off models even before they start working asking for upfront fees and other out of the box requirements. The best agency comes down to which one tries to mold you to climb to the top.

MFW officially kicks off this evening and A-Listed will be giving you front row coverage! To get things started we had to begin with one of our favourite designers, Sofia Dourvari.

Hot on the high heels of her successful show at London Fashion Week, international designer Sofia Dourvari will be showing her 2014 pre-autumn collection at Manchester Fashion Week, a four day event over the Easter Bank Holiday. Sofia Dourvari designs are created for independent confident women and the pre-autumn collection provides some exciting looks to bridge the gap between the spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons. Colours will include black, silvers and metallics, with fabrics in Duchess satin, organza, Georgette, lurex metallic yarns, metallic pleat, faux leather and brocade. Sofia describes leather as a ‘new love’ and has used it to create simple shapes, as well as combining it with lace and, most interestingly, leather lace, for this collection.

The collection is made up of three parts - party dresses, cocktail dresses and long gowns – and, as with all Sofia Dourvari designs, there is a focus on shape and structure being used to create elegant and sophisticated looks. This seasons, Sofia has taken her inspiration from nature’s striking visual moments, such as raindrops glimmering on leaves and the dramatic majesty of flowers in different weather. Using dark brocade, leather lace and 3D structural flowers, Sofia has created pieces that can be easily distinguished by their unique finish. Long gowns with airy hems, structured from flower shapes, capture some of the effortless grace of nature and empower the wearer.
