A large German beer hall that gets noisy with Midtown workers at happy hour. Maybe I don't understand German food, but it's not for lack of trying. Their haus burger with fried onions and haus sauce would have been great, but the cook ignored our plea for medium. What the fuck was he cooking with, hellfire?
Here's their Sauerbraten- Beef braised in wine and vinegar
At $22, this was one of the more expensive entrees on the menu. As colorful as the veggies are, the meat and potatoes were very bland, and the fried onions were soggy. The radish salad is the same as the cucumber: If you like vinegar you will befriend this pink pile in no time. The cucumber salad not pictured is the same- a soggy pile of cucumber disks dripping in white vinegar.
The goulash is more soup than stew, served in a shallow bowl. The bratwurst sandwich is one bratwurst with a meager layer of peppers and onions between a kaiser roll. The food here is uninspired, but these two items were just depressing.
The saving grace of Bierhaus is their variety of beer, and about ten different pork, veal, and chicken sausages. Note that a half-liter of beer costs $8 and a 2L boot of beer costs $32- No volume discount for buying four times the beer? Why would anybody commit to drinking 2L of one beer, half of which will be warm and gross? Hofbrau could sell twice as much beer by having a more sensible pricing scheme. But instead, patrons are incentivized to drink by the half liter, tying up the waitresses and dishwashers.
Final Thoughts: I am listing this here because you can save $25 while getting drunk. You're only allowed to use the Scoutmob deal once per person, so bring a friend. Don't even bother with the food unless you're a Teutophile, because it's a poor value even for Manhattan, with the discount.

We don't waste a lot of food I thought one day as some product on the TeeVee was trying to sell plastic bags or preservatives or some other nonsense. We eat everything, I thought, as I resumed cleaning the living room. But there was nagging feeling of doubt in my mind about how much food we really do throw away. Do we throw away pounds of food? Do we throw away what might add up to an entire meal? For May I decided to find out.
May 5: 1 Cup of broccoli. My kids love broccoli and we are very fortunate to have kids that welcome a green vegetable onto their plate but my wife and I don't care very much for it. What happened was that I made more than the kids would eat for dinner and then forgot to serve it to them before it developed that broccoli smell.
In this gap of ten days I took to heart this challenge and ate everything that was close to getting bad. One night my dinner was half a peanut butter sandwich, a small bowl of chips and salsa, rice with cheese.
