Jonah pulled the gauze from his elbow wound. Strands of cotton were left behind on the pink flesh, slightly covered with a greenish ointment. “That’s not too bad,” said Arlene. “How about I throw you off a speeding motorcycle, and we’ll see how that goes?” Jonah felt like he was levitating. The painkillers were kicking in. Arlene’s indifference was irritating and he spiked her flask with Vicodin when he sent her to find the nurse. She came back with a sandwich. “Grilled chicken and cheese will go great with my energy drink.” Jonah was on the ceiling, out of earshot.
Thomas had a tough time in the condo. Claustrophobia was easy to deal with but the green walls reminded him of home. He missed roaming the fields with his siblings. They would rest under the chestnut tree at midday, discussing how far over the mountain they could go. At times Fran would roll over on his back, kick his legs up and sing. The youngest, Clara, would rest her head on the lowest branch laughing at Fran trying to stay in tune. In the city, trees were smaller than people and it was no picnic for a mule staying in an apartment.
Wow. This has got to be one of my all time best stories.
On Wednesday night I was talking to my good friend Jonah and was telling him about the show "<tag>The Amazing Race</tag>", and how I wanted to apply this year. Jonah and I have gone on a lot of trips together and somehow don't grate on each other's nerves at all. I have a lot of respect for him and his abilities, so I thought he'd be a perfect partner for The Amazing Race. For those of you who don't know about this tv-tastic gem, it's basically a race / scavenger hunt around the world.
I meandered to the application site, downloaded the application, and began to check out the requirements. Guess when the due date for the tape was? Friday at 5pm, which meant that we had one day to create a 3 minute video, fill out the two 11 page applications and get some passport sized photos taken. Not one to back down from a <tag>challenge</tag> due to complete lack of time, I convinced Jonah to get on board.
