I'm amusing myself thinking about how outrageously dumb the school system is.
You know how some superstars are constantly surrounded by yes-men, get their ass kissed 24/7?
Those people get disconnected from reality, and when that happens, it usually means the beginning of the end of their career. Because when you lose connection with reality, you also lose connection with what got you to the top in the first place.
School is like that. Except all of society is brainwashed.
Higher education doesn't matter anymore. I dropped out, and have gotten a 100 times more valuable education because of it. On my own time.
It's all incestuous. Degrees are good for academic dick measuring contests, and not much else. At the school I went to, I got into the "Design" program where I stayed for 2 months before dropping out. Later on, I would have had the option to take the "English C" course, where if I passed I would have gotten a "Cambridge Certificate" which would have shown I'm a real badass when it comes to the English language.
I would have passed with flying colors. I think so, anyway, because I started correcting my English teachers in third grade. If not always grammatically, when it comes to conversational English I have been superior to my teachers since fifth grade. (I'm Swedish, this isn't very common.)
Now, why would I want a Cambridge certificate? Most people think they need it if they want to get a job overseas, or maybe get into a fancy school later.
If I were hiring and wanted to make sure the applicant knew English, what would I do? I'd fucking talk to them, that's what. Words on paper, especially those issued by schools, are unreliable at best.
If you need it to get into a school, that school is undoubtedly part of the same academic dick measuring world that has no connection to what matters in the real world.
So, what does matter in the real world?
Grit. Street smarts. Insight into human psychology. Salesmanship. Communication skills. Problem solving. Self-understanding. Meta-learning. Adaptability. Strategic thinking. Critical thinking.
They don't teach street smarts at school, because teachers don't have it. If teachers did, they wouldn't be teachers.
Schools are doing an exceptional job with setting kids up for a harsh awakening once they get kicked out of the school system. Not much else.
Get a door to door, nose to nose, toes to toes sales job for 2 years instead. You will be way ahead of the curve.
Or write a book. Or start a lawn care business.
Don't buy into the fantasy of higher education and then happily ever after.
