This is really a follow on post from “Uncertainty” - contemplating redundancy and the daunting prospect of being re-employed.
The current situation is that the full time placements are just not there; higher management jobs are fewer and farther between and I doubt something will come up that doesn't involve relocating - not something I want to do at all, as it would mean my son having to find a new school. Plus we have a great network of support and friends here in Brighton. That said, if it was the ideal opportunity, then I wouldn't refuse!
So the other option is to become self-employed as a consultant/architect/strategist. I find this idea really quite exciting and I would love to be able to do this. On the down side is that I've no savings and my redundancy payout won't last long, so I'll need to have a pipeline of prospects built up very soon if this is going to fly.
